For my webcam project, you can view my RapMan's webcam mount at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:8618 and software at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:8684. I used 10 LEDs (forgot the MCD value) and a 10ohm resistor on a small project board, soldering them with 3 holes between each. An unused USB cable's red(+) and black(-) wires were connected to the board. The LEDs were soldered at the first and second rows, and the board was cut at the fourth row (11.9mm width). My references for USB cable info were http://josepino.com/light/usb_led_light, while http://www.llamma.com/xbox360/mods/How%20to%20use%20an%20LED.htm and http://www.hebeiltd.com.cn/?p=zz.led.resistor.calculator helped with resistor calculations, though I only used the latter. The strip is secured on the RapMan's 8mm top rear cross bar with two M4 screws, aiming the LEDs at where the extruder tip meets the print bed. The USB cable is cable-tied to the frame to avoid it getting in the printer belts. Upcoming modifications include a reflector strip for the LEDs. However, I'm planning to replace the current LED unit due to performance issues - either it's the wrong size or low quality, as brightness gradually fades over days.
