I attached a new D-sub connector to replace my old one since it didn't require soldering, allowing me to insert the connecting screws from the back of the extruder housing more easily. The space previously occupied by the original fan is now filled with a smaller model that securely fits into existing holes in the x-axis bearing block's rear surface using those same screws I had already screwed into place. I didn't verify the length of the new wiring since I swapped it out for my replacement but fortunately, the replacement wires turned out to be sufficiently long.
