Raphael was a renowned Italian painter and architect who dominated the High Renaissance. His artistic creations are highly regarded for their precise forms, effortless compositions, and visual representations of human grandeur that embody the Neoplatonic ideal. Alongside Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci, he constitutes the traditional triumvirate of master artists from that era. Raphael's incredible productivity allowed him to run a massive workshop, producing a substantial body of work despite passing away at the tender age of 37. A significant portion of his works can be found within the Vatican Palace, where the frescoed Raphael Rooms served as the centerpiece and largest project of his illustrious career. The School of Athens in the Vatican Stanza della Segnatura stands out as his most celebrated work. Following his initial years in Rome, much of his subsequent work was executed by his workshop from his original drawings, resulting in a notable loss of quality. Nonetheless, Raphael's influence during his lifetime was immense, and outside of Rome, his artistic endeavors were primarily known through collaborative printmaking efforts.
