Random 16in Dagger
prusaprinters
Here is a random dagger that's around 16 inches in length. Honestly, i tried making a sword but it's too short to be a sword. Thus I guess its a dagger but I think it's to long to be a dagger. Anyway, I made it totally by accident. I was trying to make a vase by using ellipses but once I got to a certain point on my vase design, I was like "Man, that sure does look like a sword handle." Once that idea entered by head, I decided to go forth with my thought. I added a Pentagon to the bottom of the handle. I printed the handle in vase mode to see how the handle felt in my hands, it felt great. Afterwords, I went to design the blade and need to admit that my very first accidental sword came out pretty good. I have a rather small 5.4 cubic in printer so I split up my sword in 3 parts. I designed it so it can all be connected by a 5/16 wood dowel I got from Walmart. I used expanding gorilla glue to glue everything together. ---painting--- This is my first time painting something and it came out pretty decent. I used wood filler to try to remove as much of the lines as possible. I did good on the blade part but totally failed using the filler on the handle due to the many curves it had. Instead I used filler from a can, XXX, which did a good job. I should have put more coats on the handle but it turned out fine. I used aluminum spray color for the blade part and wood stain for the handle. The stain came out good but because it did not work well if the filler materials i used, the stain took several hours to dry out in the sun. I may decide just to get a head gun. ------settings---- I used .3mm height because I wanted to quickly print out my prototype with rather quick time around 8 hours. I suggest using .2mm for better looking print. I used 5% gyriod infill with 2 layers walls + additional wall every other layer. ----future edits-- I may plan to break the handle into 3 parts so I can print the area where you hand grips with wood pla and the top/bottom parts with a metal pla. I may just go the easy way and stop my printer and put a wood pla and later switch it back to a metal pla once the area reaches the top of the handle.
