This is an adapter to allow a Rand McNally RVND 7730 LM RV GPS to mount to aRand McNally RVND 7720 LM RV GPS dash mounting plate in my 2015 Winnebago Brave 31C.Print SettingsPrinter Brand: PrusaPrinter: i3 MK2SFilament: E3D spoolWorks MatX ASA "Very" Black30Notes:I used ASA filament because I knew the motorhome would get hot and I wanted give the adapter the best chance at surviving in those conditions. I created a make-shift enclosure out of a cardboard box to help the ASA filament print properly. If I recall correctly I was having bed adhesion problems without the enclosure.Unfortunately, I don't recall my settings as I printed this up almost a year ago, just before a family vacation. I had forgotten all about this design until now and realized that I should share it in case someone else could find a use for it.Post-PrintingWhile the yellow PLA test version fit perfectly, the tolerance could have been increased a bit. When I slid it over the existing metal mount in my motor home it cracked slightly. However, it held strong so I decided not to mess with success. :)How I Designed ThisI designed with using Fusion 360 and I have provided the Fusion 360 Archive file as well as a STEP file should you like to modify this design to your liking. I used profile photos as reference during the design process, and lots of caliper measurements.BackstoryWhy I created thisI currently own a 2015 Winnebago Brave 31C which has a really nice built in GPS mount. Unfortunately the unit that came with the motorhome was missing. So I replacing it with the next newer model that Rand McNally sold, and I learned that the mount was a different size. So I set about designing an adapter before a trip. Why am I no longer using itIn short: because the power connector on the circuit board of my brand new (fresh from sealed box)Rand McNally RVND 7730 LM RV GPS unit broke half way through my 3 week trip.I believe there may be a design flaw in the 7730 unit (and possibly the 7720 unit before it, as the previous owner's story seemed close to my own experience). The power plug does not seem to have enough mechanical support to allow occasional plugging and unplugging of the power cable. I really was being cautious when plugging it in, but that still wasn't enough.I ended up replacing the broken GPS by bungie cording my iPhone to the GPS mount and purchasing the CoPilot RV GPS software. (Unfortunately, now I have to find a way to mount and hookup a separate monitor for my backup camera, but that's a story for another Thingiverse "thing" sometime in the future.)
