I love my Rocky Grinder, but it struggles with really oily dark-roast beans - they often get stuck in the throat and I'm forced to fish them out by inserting something to stir the beans loose. Removing the protective guard helps, but I still need to manually mix the beans at times to get them to drop down. So, I decided to take matters into my own hands and built this solution. To make it work, you'll need an 8mm rod as the shaft - I cut mine just shy of 150mm, but feel free to adjust the length depending on how much knob you want sticking up. You'll also need a pillow block flange bearing, which I use from Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01KH35KT0/). Two 15mm M4 bolts and M4 nylon lock nuts are required to bolt the flange bearing onto the lid. Leave the collar peg loose - it actually works better that way. If the beans get stuck, simply twist the knob and the paddle will knock them loose. The inside section of the lid is curved for an o-ring seal, but I haven't found the perfect one yet. Once I do, the beans should stay fresher in the hopper, even though they're not there long enough to go stale.
