I think about 12 inches open height is a bit high, in my opinion. They use a 1/4 inch bolt for a pivot point. I used nylon lock nuts to adjust the tension so it stays put when pivoted out of the way without any special settings. Make them out of whatever you like or shorten them if you prefer.
