Raise3D N2/N2+ bed mod for leveling, stronger springs
thingiverse
I built upon TobyCWood's outstanding Raise3D N2 leveling mod, making several changes along the way. Our Raise3D printer is likely newer and features a fully insulated plate underneath the bed, which allows us to use metal washers instead of printed ones. I was unable to find springs identical to those used in the original design, so I opted for stiffer springs from McMaster Carr and resized the stabilizer accordingly. Additionally, I created a larger version of the wing nut, making it easier to turn with one's fingers. To secure everything in place, I utilized 40mm flathead screws instead of the standard 35mm ones, given that the nut is slightly deeper. The wing nut and stabilizer were printed using Colorfabb HT filament, which is designed to withstand high temperatures. On our printer, there are no printed components in contact with the heated bed (we're employing metal washers against the insulated plate under the bed), but it seems wiser to use a robust, heat-resistant plastic. Other than that, the instructions remain unchanged. I do find it helpful when leveling to completely loosen the central screw, adjust the four corners first, and then tighten down the central screw as needed to prevent the bed from bulging upwards. If you tighten the central screw initially, you'll essentially be doing a three-point leveling with the center and two corners, making it challenging to achieve precision. Below are the parts I sourced from McMaster Carr: 18-8 Stainless Steel Hex Drive Flat Head Screw M3 x 0.5 mm Thread, 40 mm Long (92125A150) Black-Oxide 18-8 Stainless Steel Washer Oversized, Number 5 Screw Size, 0.141" ID, 0.625" OD, Packs of 25 (90377A116) Steel Compression Spring Zinc-Plated Music Wire, 1.00" Long,.420" OD,.047" Wire, Packs of 12 (9657K308) Medium-Strength Steel Nylon-Insert Locknut Class 8, Zinc-Plated, M3 x 0.5 mm Thread, Packs of 100 (90576A102)
