This adapter allows you to replace the noisy 35mm extruder cooling fans with quieter 40mm fans. Noctua fans are ideal for use due to their extremely quiet operation. This adapter reuses the existing exhaust duct. Because the axis bars need clearance, there is a groove at the top of each design, making the adapters handed, suitable for left or right hand use (as seen from the front of the machine). To print, download either the left, right, or both model files. Print with the larger face down to minimize support material required. To install, remove the existing side fans by unscrewing the two upper bolts. Then unplug the existing fan, disconnect the cables, and prepare the new parts. Position the adapter against the existing exhaust duct and use the inner two holes to screw in 2 x M3 16-18mm bolts (a countersunk head is preferred). Securely attach the bolts to the existing extruder holes, ensuring you use the very front hole and the rear one that matches the 35mm spacing. Next, insert 4 x M3 12-14mm bolts into the new 40mm fan and screw it onto the outside of the adapter. Ensure the fan label is nearest the extruder (so the center fan label cannot be seen when attached). Then simply attach using the outer/corner four holes. The M3 bolts will create their own threads in the plastic, eliminating the need for nuts or any other hardware. Then run the new fan wiring up through the extruder housing as originally done and reconnect the 2-pin connectors to the correct ports. Ensure the red cable is nearest the back of the extruder when fitting. These adapters keep the lower edge of the new 40mm fans at the same height as the original 35mm fans, preventing any issues during printing. Enjoy a little more peace and quiet :)
