Rainbow Dash Rain Boom! (Laser, Stain Glass)

I made a few sketches, referenced several designs online and made the final sketch. The entire process was a real challenge for me - half the battle was getting the drawing just right, while the other was setting up the laser cuts, color layers, and refining the model. The Rainbow Dash figurine will be cut out of various colored plastics, including red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet, white, black, and clear. The original design was created in Inkscape, a free software download that is widely used by hobbyists and professionals alike. Each color is divided into separate layers to make the cutting process more efficient. One important thing to note is that the etching layer needs to be separated from the cut layer for the back plane of the figurine. The etching process involves lasering at a lower power setting, which creates intricate details without compromising the integrity of the material. To complete the figurine, you'll need to add paint (specifically blue) into the cracks and crevices to enhance the appearance. To assemble the layers, I recommend using clear Gorilla Glue - this will provide a strong bond between each layer while minimizing any visibility. This design is scaled specifically for the 13"x9" bed on my 15mW laser cutter, but I'm curious to see how it would look on a larger model. The goal of this project was to bring Rainbow Dash to life in a way that's both detailed and intricate.
