Rainwater Diverter System: Designed for Seamless Installation on 2-5/8" Square Downspouts The rain diverter system is specifically engineered to efficiently redirect rainwater from downspouts into rain barrels, ensuring that the water does not overfill the container. To achieve this seamless integration, simply mount the output pipe just below the top of your barrel. This strategic placement prevents the barrel from overflowing. A built-in grating mechanism effectively filters out larger leaves and debris, allowing only clean rainwater to enter the barrel. Moreover, the diversion chamber features strategically placed drain holes that prevent the system from freezing up during harsh weather conditions. For optimal performance, it is recommended to use a shorter pipe to connect the downspout to the rain barrel. This design adjustment can be observed in the model itself. However, there are areas for future improvement, including redesigning the bottom section of the diverter to fit snugly inside the downspout or adding a 360-degree lip to prevent water from escaping the downspout pipe. To ensure a secure seal between the lower pipe and the downspout, a ring of caulking can be applied. This method has proven effective in my experience. When printing the rainwater diverter system, it is essential to use a printer with a tall print bed. I utilize an extended OB1.4 printer for this purpose, which allows me to achieve a total object height of 22.6 cm. Additionally, the design requires the ability to print 45-degree overhangs without support. To accommodate various hose sizes, I have designed the nozzle to fit a standard 1-1/2" hose. Although the fit may be slightly loose, applying a hose clamp on top of the printed barbs provides a tight seal. To achieve this secure connection, begin by trimming any excess material from the first layer and brim at the bottom of the nozzle. Then, use a lighter to briefly heat the plastic and press-fit the nozzle into the main body. Once you have achieved a snug but easy fit, remove the nozzle and glue it permanently in place.
