Rain Gauge Mount
thingiverse
This is a mounting bracket for a replaceable rain gauge tube, or odometer. Take a look at the photos for details on replacing the glass tube - I buy mine at Menards up here in northern USA for about $5. The mounting plate is straightforward, allowing you to attach it to a railing like one on a deck. Initially, my first version clipped onto my deck railing, but since railings come in different styles, I created this simple flat design that can be screwed down to any flat surface. The holes are 3mm, which works perfectly for #4 sized stainless steel screws. The calibration ring ensures accurate readings from the gauge. The glass tube is flared outward at the top, allowing extra water to flow into the tube. This results in readings that can be up to 30% higher than actual rainfall. The calibration ring should fit snugly so that water cannot run between the glass and the ring. I simply seal it in place with silicone. Make sure to install the gauge in a spot with an open view of the sky, not shaded by buildings or trees.
