Railroad plows are specialized rail vehicles equipped with powerful, hook-shaped cutting tools. Designed for destruction, they're used to disable enemy rail infrastructure by tearing up wooden sleepers as part of a scorched earth strategy. In operation, the plow is lowered and dragged along the tracks by a locomotive, ripping through the center of the rail line. This action shatters wooden ties, causing steel rails to become misaligned and rendering the track impassable for future use. Nearby bridges and signaling equipment also suffer significant damage. Similar devices were employed by Russian railway troops during World War I as they retreated from Galicia and Poland. The Czechoslovak Army used railroad plows during their occupation in 1938, while German forces deployed them during World War II as they retreated northward through Italy and westward from the Eastern Front.
