Railroad Bridge Pier

Railroad Bridge Pier

thingiverse

This is a replica of a bridge pier used by railroads. The measurements are taken from an actual pier constructed by the Southern Pacific Railroad to cross Los Gatos Creek in the Santa Clara Valley, California. I found these dimensions in a set of technical drawings created by the Southern Pacific Railroad at the California State Railroad Museum in Sacramento. I printed this design on a Form One resin printer. The walls may be too thin for printers using ABS or PLA materials; filling the interior void should make it easier to print. A SketchUp file used to generate the STL file is included. Note that hollow models can cause problems with liquid resin printers due to pressure when the tank presses against the model after each layer. The pier has a small hole at the top of the hollow section to allow excess resin to escape.
