The animal is a bull, an adult male from the species Bos taurus (cattle) that has not been castrated. He's noticeably stronger and more aggressive than the female counterpart, known as a cow. The bull has long played a crucial role in beef ranching and dairy farming, in addition to various cultural activities worldwide. A female to this bull is known as a cow. Conversely, if a male of the species undergoes castration, he's referred to as a steer or bullock - although, the term 'bullock' generally refers to an uncastrated young animal in North America, whereas in Australia, it denotes a working draft animal. Vocabulary usage for these terms varies significantly with region and dialect. Informally, those unfamiliar with cattle often refer to both intact and castrated animals as bulls. In certain areas of the globe, particularly Australia, a wild or unmarked young bull is known colloquially as a micky. When an individual animal is not properly or timely castrated, it transforms into a rough or aggressive steer known as a stag in regions such as Australia, Canada and New Zealand. Notably, these classifications extend to other species within the Bovidae family including bison, water buffalo, among others. The term "bull" also pertains to male species from other vast animal families including elephants, rhinos, seals, walruses, camels, giraffes, moose, whales and antelopes, amongst others.
