Raft that actually works

Raft that actually works

A test has been conducted on an idea involving printing a cylinder with a one-layer thick base instead of a conventional raft. The base is trimmed rather than detached, offering the advantages of both raftless and rafted prints. Interestingly, the thin base behaves like a sheet of metal when folded back and forth along the object's silhouette, breaking precisely at the silhouette for a clean finish. This method requires modifying your 3D model to include a rectangular box as the base with a height equal to your layer height. To ensure proper adhesion to the platform, the base must be watertight. A video demonstrating this process can be found at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQHEhPh2ZOA. The author has been using this method for their prints and encourages others to try it as well.
