This specially designed mask was worn by a patient undergoing radiotherapy treatment for throat cancer in 2018. Radiotherapy experts utilize high-energy radiation beams, typically X-rays or gamma rays, to target the body's cells. The radiation damages DNA within those cells, preventing them from reproducing and spreading the cancer. The custom-made mask securely holds the patient's head and neck in place, allowing for precise targeting of the tumor without harming surrounding healthy tissue.
