Radioactive Cauliflower

Radioactive Cauliflower

thingiverse

Is this a cauliflower steamed in Mountain Dew using a microwave oven? No, it's a mini glowing nuclear mushroom cloud perfect for display. The original version was created on Shapeways and caused quite a stir due to its high price. MaximFilms then made the T-verse version which can be printed at a much lower cost. To achieve self-glow, a 2032 LED holder was inserted into the stalk. The one pictured is in glow-in-the-dark yellow and illuminated with a UV LED for maximum effect. For precise sizing, calibration is crucial; print only the bottom of the stalk first to ensure battery fit before committing to a 12hr print. Be aware that this design requires substantial support material and generates waste; printing upside down might help reduce waste. This unique mushroom cloud 3D print was featured on the 3D Printing Today podcast, available on iTunes, Stitcher Radio, or directly from the source at http://threedprintingtoday.libsyn.com/.
