The ancient monastery of the Chaldean Catholic Church has been standing for over 1,300 years, its origins dating back to approximately 640 AD. Strategically carved into the rugged mountains, this sacred site is situated about two miles from Alqosh, Iraq, and a mere 28 miles north of Mosul. From 1551 onwards, the patriarchs of the Eliya line of the Church of the East made it their official residence, wielding significant influence over the region for nearly three centuries. Following the historic union with Rome in the early 19th century, this revered monastery emerged as a prominent center within the Chaldean Catholic Church, continuing to play an essential role in the spiritual lives of its devoted followers.
