Please watch this video for more information: https://youtu.be/hH4L06uxcRU The survey for my next project has been closed and I'm excited to share the winner with you. Shortly, I'll post a new video detailing the winner's concept and my plans to bring it to life. This impressive creation is a 3D Printed R2D2 powered by an Arduino. My design journey began with sketching ideas on note cards, then researching reference images on Google to get the dimensions just right. Next, I used Tinkercad to model out the parts and print them using my Robo 3D Printer with PLA material. The largest prints were the body, which took around 10 hours, and the head, which required about 6 hours of printing time. The remaining components took between 2-3 hours each. In total, this project consumed approximately 30 hours of printing time, using a layer height of 0.3mm. However, you can improve the quality by reducing that setting. After the prints were complete, I handed them over to my wife, who skillfully brought R2D2 to life with her painting expertise. She applied plastic spray primer to ensure the paint adhered perfectly, then used acrylic paints and a brush to add intricate details. Finally, she gave it a clear coat to protect the beautiful paint job. This magnificent creation features two stepper motors for movement, a servo motor for head rotation, a Bluetooth module for communication, and an LED to light up its iconic eye. You can check out my breadboard layout and code below. Stay tuned for my upcoming video, which will provide a more detailed assembly process and links to all the components used in this build. Building one yourself was a blast, and I'd love to see your creations! Additionally, I'll be posting another project featuring a non-electronic version of R2D2, perfect for those who want a stunning replica without the electronics.
