R2D2 Silicon Mold

R2D2 Silicon Mold

thingiverse

This is a mold to make silicon copies of the R2D2 used in skylerboy347's R2D2 Surprise Egg. I haven't tried to use it yet but I've used similar techniques as when I used to carve pewter molds out of soap stone. The breather holes are at the tips of R2's feet so as to allow for the injected silicon to fill up the entire mold and ensure that R2 has full functioning feet. Once it's printed I'll give the mold a quick spray of release agent. (probably baking spray like Pam or some such) and then a dusting of corn starch. Then I'll probably spritz the inside with a little water before I close it up and inject the silicon. The water is a rapid cure element (or so I've read) so that I might be able to crack the mold open after an hour or so and see what I've managed to accomplish. Once I have actually tried it out I'll post my results. :) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9/6/2021 UPDATE Ok... R2's feet strike again. (I've had problems w R2's feet before) The mold works as intended but R2's feet tend to pop off when removing him from the mold. I'll try another design later with less detail and see how that goes. Also I believe I'll just drill out alignment holes and use filament as pegs.
