I've Created an R2D2 Radar Eye Insert This insert is specifically designed for 3D printed R2D2 radar eyes, with a diameter of three inches. Its small size makes it a perfect fit inside any custom-made eye assembly. As I couldn't find a suitable sphere in stock, I took the initiative to design my own from scratch. Be cautious when handling this insert, as its hollowed-out back allows for a seamless integration with the curved dome behind it. In order to achieve a smooth and sturdy finish, you may need to use some supports during printing. I've uploaded a SketchUp file for your reference in case you want to make any modifications. To ensure a high level of quality and detail, I printed mine at an incredibly precise 0.1mm layer height. Note that one crucial detail was overlooked above: the insert features a subtle bead along its edge, measuring about 1mm thick. This delicate design element perfectly compensates for minor imperfections in the original 3D printed eye assembly, providing a snug fit every time. **Print Settings:** - Printer Brand: RepRap - Printer Model: Prusa i3 - Rafts: Optional but Not Essential - Supports: A Must for a Flawless Finish - Resolution: 0.1mm for a Remarkably Smooth Finish - Infill Density: A Solid 40% Ensures Sturdiness **Designing this Insert** The Process was Relatively Simple and Straightforward. - I Started by Creating a Sphere in SketchUp. - Next, I Designed a Three-Inch Cylinder that Intersects with the Sphere at Precisely the Right Angle. - Then, I Carefully Measured Where the Two Entities Met, Recording this Measurement for Future Reference. - I Immediately Removed the Cylinder, but Its Role wasn't Over Yet. - Instead of Deletong Entirely, it will play its part in an unexpected way later.
