R2D2 Hexport Base for Mr Baddeley's R2

NB: This is a remix of HexBasex2.stl in the Mr Baddeley R2 file archive. Because that file can't be directly hyperlinked, I had to select the “new original model” option. Just know that it's a remix. Credit where credit is due. Here's a minor mod for the R2D2 hexport base to make it the same as the original films… probably. The hard work (research ) was done by the good folk at 3dsfInfo here: https://sites.google.com/site/3dsfinfo/the-3dsf-info-astro-droid-pages/v-the-r2-d2-detail-catalogue/the-r2-d2-detail-catalogue-part-b-the-body#h.4ycwsrrav9vnIt's an excellent set of research articles on R2. Have a read! As with may R2 parts, there is some debate about how it's built. 3dsfInfo says that it's likely that the lines were painted on…. or semi-slotted… probably not cut through, but may be.Right, now that that's clear, these models let you choose. The “drop” versions are a full HexBase with the slots recessed either 0.5mm or 1.0mm so that you can paint in the lines yourself. Two depths to suit how thick your paint is or how much of a guideline you need/want.The insert file is a set of inserts to put into the slots on the original HexBasex2.stl file. They can be painted out of the base easily and then pushed into place. Note that this is a tight fit. They need to be to avoid seeing gaps. You will need to gently file each piece to get it to fit well. But, done well, you will have perfectly crisp line edges flush with the base surface. If you want a “semi-slotted” design, just print the insert file at 50% height. Ok, so, with the original file and these, you can have cut-through slots, half depth slots or flush painted lines (three different ways). Your only problem is picking which one you want to use…Enjoy! Printing Print settings are not very important here as long as the first layer goes down well. I used the following:Material: PLA+ but anything is fineSupports: NoNozzle: 0.4mmLayer height: 0.28mm (0.14mm for the insert version to get smooth sides)Line width: 0.6mm (0.2mm for the insert version to get sharp corners)Infill: 10%
