This CNC rocking chair is crafted from a single sheet of 18mm Birch plywood for the bed and another sheet of 12mm Birch ply for the sides. The maker aimed to create a flexible yet strong chair using "living hinges" made from zig-zag cut wood, with a clamping joint and "T" peg designed for sturdiness upon assembly. It's comfortable for lounging and even accommodates pets at a lower level. The maker used a Shopbot to cut the pieces in 10.5 hours, employing various end-mill bits for different parts of the chair. Assembly involves carefully aligning and clamping the joints. Inspiration came from Frank Lloyd Wright's redesigned chair, Vernon Panton's "Relax" rocking chair, and Gregg Fleishman's work. Special thanks go to Fab Lab Wellington and Massey University for use of facilities. Thingiverse has more details on this innovative design.
