Camphor is a naturally occurring chiral substance found in abundance within specific tree species, such as camphor laurel trees, and certain herbs like rosemary plants. The naturally occurring form of camphor, (R)-camphor, exhibits the stereochemistry depicted in this model, featuring two chiral centers both with an (R) configuration. Its enantiomer, (S)-camphor, is also known and can be produced synthetically through various chemical methods.
