Quieter & More Reliable Gravity Spoolholder Frames and Stepped Nuts
prusaprinters

This remix of Michal Fanta's excellent gravity spoolholder has a tweaked ramp design which reduces the vertical fall and kachunk noise of the original. Michal's project is of interest to MMU2S owners because it eliminates the need for a buffer, is far more convenient to load, and provides for reduced desk space usage.

Next, a kick spring for the top of the ramp is added which prevents the spool from remaining at the high ramp end when filament tension is released. The springs fit on Michal Fanta's ramps as well although not as tightly.

All parts are typically made from PETG sliced at 0.2mm Speed with default settings.

The spoolholder is designed for reliable use when the spool trays rest on a horizontal surface or close to horizontal - perhaps +/- 2 degrees.

Also in the remix are stepped nuts that have the original outer hex dimension, but can hold Prusa, California Filament, Paramount, and Sunlu reels. The stepping profile is seen in an image file.

For the ultimate in smooth, reliable performance, the contact surfaces of the spring with the gear outside diameter, and the top of ramp near the last gear tooth can be wetted with a little white lithium bearing grease.
