I made this because I was tired of breaking fan blades but couldn't find a quite fan grill that was "perfect for my needs. Also I am learning FreeCAD.

This design keeps a gap between the the grill and the fan. The pattern I used for the grill is based on one of the more quiet yet sturdy designs from this webpage. I have included the FreeCAD files and you can edit things to make it custom for your fan.

The two STLs I have include are:

grill_creality_4040.stl

This fits the fan that came with my ender 3.

The peg_diameter is 6.05mm

The peg_length is 2.5mm

grill_amazon_4040.stl

This is a fan a got from amazon, this one

The peg diameter is 5.45mm

The peg_length is 3mm

These holes are shaped like a hexagon but the round peg fits very good

If you want a cover for a fan with different size holes you can look below or ask and I will see what I can do. Practice makes perfect.

How to Install to Fan:

Remove two screws, diagonal to one another.

Press on Grill

To Edit the Pegs Diameter:

Open in FreeCAD 0.19≥. On the left pane double click on the Spreadsheet and look for peg_diameter and enter the diameter(not radius) of your fans counter sunk hole. For a snug fit tolerance, subtract 0.05mm from the diameter.

Next measure the depth of the counter sunk hole and put that in the `peg_length' section.

That should be all you need to change to make one for your fan.

To export Mesh STL:

Select the body and got the mesh workbench, select “Create Mesh From Shape” under the “Meshes” Drop down menu.

Then select the newly created mesh in the left pane and left click “Export Mesh”
