Quiet Brass Practice Mute
thingiverse
I crafted this for my trusty Flugelhorn. It utilizes a wall spy mic so users can savor their rich melodies at full volume while their neighbors peacefully sleep. Following the printing of files, tap the three smaller holes in the Mute Body section with an M4 screw. Wrap one turn of weather stripping halfway up the body and secure the mic firmly into place using the screw and Mic Cover part. Tip: The mic is incredibly sensitive and can quickly become extremely loud and distorted. Adjust its sensitivity so you barely hear the valves moving. Some constant static will remain. If the mute proves not quiet enough, or you prefer more air resistance, stuff a small piece of cloth through the side openings. To achieve less resistance, cut away the bottom vent hole or drill additional holes.
