Quick tool change with Z-homing

thingiverse

A couple weeks back, I made a video showcasing an alternative method for homing the z-axis. This innovative approach involves positioning the tip of the nozzle directly on the bed itself. The entire hot end ascends and triggers a micro switch located in the base, allowing users to swiftly swap between tools, nozzles, and build plates without needing recalibration or adjustments. I haven't employed this method for mesh bed leveling as I rely on a Digital Tilt Indicator (DTI) to guarantee a perfectly flat surface. This new tool holder is built upon my original quick tool change design (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3369444), but the tools require modifications. I will release updated tools that are compatible with the original holder, and I've included a detailed drawing for users to modify their own tools and test this concept. Please note that this is still an experimental design, and I need to conduct thorough testing to ensure its reliability. Be aware that things can change, and it may not be suitable for everyone's needs. The Fusion file and STEP file are available for you to work with and refine the design. My apologies for any confusion caused by my initial post - I got a bit carried away! I still have some concerns and need to test: * Whether this method affects or potentially damages brass nozzles * Reproducibility of results * Potential impact on print quality * Mesh bed leveling compatibility * Possibly other factors I've overlooked While this design is not yet complete, I invite you to try it out and share your experiences. This approach shows promise, but there are many other z-homing methods worth exploring. The video I uploaded provides a more in-depth look at the process of developing this design (https://youtu.be/9yjT9ZjxFFE).
