Quick tool change for Creality CR-10 / Ender series
thingiverse
I decided to upgrade my Creality CR-10 printer and stumbled upon this awesome laser head that can easily be attached to this printer. Four small neodymium magnets on the laser head make it easy to secure it to the metal extruder shroud. I wasn't convinced of its stability, so I designed a generic tool holder to add extra support. This turned out to be way more impressive than I expected because not only can I place the laser cutter, but also add a grinder and suddenly have a tabletop CNC milling machine! You can even switch between hot ends without having to unscrew the nozzle if you have multiple hot ends and extra cables/connectors. It's also easier to clean or replace the nozzle since it can be held in your hand. The position remains stable when replacing the tool, thanks to testing with an indicator (DTI), so there's no need to level your bed after swapping tools. However, I recommend adding an adjustable Z-stop for smoother operation. I'm quite fond of this one https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2757323, which makes nozzle changes much easier. I created a YouTube video explaining how I came up with this idea and how it's mounted to the 3D printer.
