Quick-Switch Collapsing VR Stock (Switching One or Two-Handed)

thingiverse

I created a collapsing VR stock to quickly switch between using a two-handed rifle and using hands independently. This design allows me to reload the rifle, interact with the environment, or use pistols or other weapons without hassle. The "lock" in the unfolded position is due to gravity and natural usage. When the buttstock is pulled out all the way, it hangs down slightly, redirecting any forward force that might collapse it into a notch that prevents it from collapsing. To collapse it, I have to lift it slightly so it doesn't hang down, which aligns it straight with the receiver and clears the notch, allowing forward force to slide it into the receiver. The lock for the folded position is simple spring tension with a bolt-like handle attached to the rotating shoulder pad. I designed the bolt so that you can push it inward (towards the shoulder pad) to put the largest part of the bolt in contact with the spring lock, or pull it outward (away from the shoulder pad) to put the smallest part of the bolt in contact with the lock and help unlock it. The original design was much smaller in diameter but proved too fragile, so I had to increase the thickness of the sliding rail, which increased the weight. I'm hoping to go back and skeletonize it or find other ways to reduce the weight at some point. I've got touch controllers, so that's what this design is made for, but you can easily design connectors for other controllers.
