Quick release Y plates for Prusa simplified mendel
thingiverse
The Y plates' files are limited, so I created my own design inspired by the Cupcake build platform's magnet-socket cap system. The large plate was carved for weight reduction and extra room for tensioners. An automatic belt tensioner is included, adjusting tension when slack appears in the Y belt. However, the spring's cutting time will be tested. Overall, it functions well. The plates were made from 8mm thick MDF from a recycled Ikea stool, glued with cyanoacrylate and epoxied for stability. Thinner (6mm) MDF or lasercutting could be considered next time. Greg Frost's LM8UU holders were epoxied along with the bearings, without using bolts or zip ties. The upper aluminium plate has holes for PrusaJr's PCB heater (209mm apart) and is mounted on springs, but not yet tested. The MDF and aluminium plates' hole sizes were slightly adjusted to fit the socket caps and bolts.
