Quick-n-easy Thing-O-Matic X bearing installation
thingiverse
To enhance your original ToM X-carriage, attach SW6/LMB6UU linear bearings using a retaining plate designed for easy installation without removing the carriage from the belt. Print two copies of the retaining plate, one for each side, and scale down one copy by 1% using RepG. Clean up the printed parts if needed, then drill, sand or ream holes to allow the bearings to float freely. Place snap rings around the bearings, test fit them against the retaining plates, and enlarge plywood holes as necessary. Attach the plates over the bearings and snap ring using M3 x 20mm screws, ensuring perpendicular alignment with the X carriage ribs. Note that this modification will reduce X travel distance and necessitate a small shim for the X limit switch. Finally, print an x-limit shim clip and attach it to your X-stage for proper switch engagement. With these upgrades, you can now achieve 120 mm/sec feed rate and 200 mm/sec moves when running Jetty acceleration firmware.
