Quick(er) Print Ping Pong Ball Cat Teaser
thingiverse
After three failed attempts to print WTFestiva's Ping Pong Ball cat teaser, I've broken the bottom down a bit. The file has two sides. You need to print this twice. I took the opportunity to change colour for opposite sides. TOP- Use the original top. It should slot straight into the grooves in the new sides. BOTTOM- This is the tricky bit. You need to print out the original bottom file (included). Print it on a raft with 0mm extra space and with one top layer. It needs to be no more than 1mm thick. When the raft is finished, cancel the print. It's only the raft that you want. LET THE BED COOL TO ROOM TEMPERATURE before removing the raft- you want it nice and flat. The thinner raft is much faster to print, uses barely any filament and if you have a more solid ball, should provide a bit of boing. The original base for this was reckoned by Cura to take about 17 hours. I managed to do all four of the sides and a base in five and a half. Files included: Cat Toy Top - WTFestiva's original top - STL. Cattoysides - Two of the new sides (print twice) - STL Cat Toy Bottom - The original. You just need it for its raft - STL Readme- Just a reminder about the raft thing. Sides Obj file if you want to personalise it a bit. You might need some masking tape to hold it together while the glue dries. It looks like there's a lot of weirdness with a zero-thickness skin all over it. THAT DOESN'T AFFECT THE PRINT. The slicer ignores it just fine. It may be Maya's buggy Boolean cutting or just bad topo causing the strange z fighting.
