In March 2018, my son's team showcased their science fair project, which was a quick disconnect prosthetic concept that didn't require custom metal parts. They demonstrated how people with limited CAD skills can download models from the internet and 3D print custom attachments. The quick disconnect interface idea received much praise, along with suggestions for various attachment designs. Some proposed a DIY approach using drill chucks, while others suggested working with companies like Snappy Tools to create more options. The project featured several attachment methods, such as bonding screwdriver bits into accessories or 3D printing attachments with hex bits. A threaded adapter was also proposed for attaching accessories, and the potential for emergency releases was explored. The team also considered ring clamps and flat clamps in various sizes for specific applications like cycling and eating utensils.
