A block is a common feature in the Mario universe and one of its most frequently encountered types. This mysterious block, which can be found suspended in mid-air, often contains valuable items such as coins, super mushrooms or fire flowers. In some cases, it may appear invisible. From Super Mario Bros. 3 onward, various methods have been introduced for interacting with question blocks beyond simply jumping into them from below. For example, players wearing a tanooki suit or a cape can use their tail whip or cape spin to hit the block respectively. Additionally, players can also activate the block by kicking a koopa shell at it. As of the New Super Mario Bros. series, ground pounding is another viable option for triggering its contents.
