Quester 1 (aka Coney Island sub / Yellow Submarine)
thingiverse
In 1963, Jerry Bianco, a Brooklyn Navy Yard ship fitter, dreamt of building a submarine to raise the wreck of the Andrea Doria - a luxury cruise ship that sank off Nantucket in 1958. His plan involved inflatable dunnage bags inside the wreck to float it to the surface. Despite the high cost, he secured financial backing for his small sub. In 1971, it was launched at Coney Island Creek but flipped over and sank due to a faulty crane operation. Jerry lost funding and couldn't refine the sub. It remained tethered at his dock until a storm destroyed it in 1975. The wreck is still there, now rusted.
