Quantum Experiments at Space Scale (QUESS; Chinese: , pinyin: Liàngzǐ kēxué shíyàn wèixīng) is a groundbreaking Chinese research initiative focused on advancing the field of quantum physics. QUESS represents a proof-of-concept mission engineered to enable the execution of sophisticated quantum optics experiments over vast distances, thereby paving the way for the development of cutting-edge quantum encryption and teleportation technologies. Quantum encryption leverages the phenomenon of entanglement to facilitate secure communication that is completely impervious to interception or decryption by unauthorized parties. By generating pairs of entangled photons, QUESS will empower ground stations situated thousands of kilometers apart to establish highly secure quantum channels. Despite its impressive capabilities, QUESS itself has limited communication capabilities: it requires a direct line-of-sight and can only operate when not exposed to sunlight.
