Queen's Guard (Board Game)

Classic board games never go out of style. Another one that caught my eye was Queen's Guard. As Wikipedia puts it: "Queen's Guard may be the oldest board game played on a hexagonally-celled board, first appearing in France as early as the late eighteenth century. The game reached its greatest popularity a century later when the Victorians fell for its unique blend of simple rules and complex strategy." (Wikipedia link) You can find the rules in the linked article and explore more insights on strategy and history through Board Game Geek. After building my large Hex Board Game Set, I was hesitant to design something that required such a high level of commitment to print. So, this game is designed as "travel size," and the 6*6*6 hex board is only a few inches across! However, we're printing this in plastic, which has its downsides. The big Hex set works well because the pieces are large enough to have some weight to them. With this Queen's Guard set being quite small, the actual pieces weighed almost nothing. What to do? Bolts come to mind! They're not essential, but some 10mm M3 socket-head bolts will make a huge difference. The pieces are designed to allow the bolts to be screwed in from below, giving them a nice low centre of gravity and much more weight. Given the relatively small number of pieces, I didn't design a specific case for the game - I just use a Citrus Box to hold them. So, read up, put on your Victorian-era gamer garb, and have fun!
