Queen excluder, with wider openings, edge only

thingiverse

A second iteration of the queen-excluder design. After researching various versions, I decided it would be beneficial to reduce the number of holes for enhanced temperature control in colder climates. The new holes measure 4.3 mm in diameter, a slight increase from the previous 4.1 mm, which was causing some bees to become trapped and perish. Observing this issue led me to make these adjustments. Since the queen bee typically resides near the center of the hive, there is no need for holes in that area, so they are primarily located on the sides and front and back, extending two frames inward. This design represents one half-excluder, necessitating a total of two units to cover an 8-frame Langstroth hive.
