QUBD : Bearing holder to prevent z-rod wobbling
thingiverse
This is a redesign and mix of http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:289966 and http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:754526. The changes are as follows: - Instead of using a 608zz ball bearing, I use a flange bearing from Home Depot because it was in stock. The part number is 57738. I hope this longer shelf provides the z-rod with even less room to tilt. - Rather than bridging the long lid (40mm), I separate them into two parts: body and cap. This allows me to sandwich the handle bar (PART:SS) with m3 screws. I also added a pocket on the bottom (2nd picture) to keep the maximum travel z-distance of my gantry, which can be seen in http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:952796. Additionally, instead of drilling the stock MDF part, I use the sandwich mechanism to attach the body to the handle bar. The results are as follows: - x:surface: The jagging significantly reduced. Almost disappeared. This is amazing! Although it's hard to take pictures that represent my surprise, the 3rd picture is my best effort without a macro lens (from top -- with this bracket, 2nd and 3rd without). Alternatively, the result looks like http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:938425 from a different design. - y:surface: A little jagging is still observed, but I think I need to improve the y-table controls another day. Also, I no longer see the handle bar shift.
