Quarto game

Swiss mathematician Blaise Müller invented Quarto in 1991, a board game designed specifically for two players.[1] Gigamic publishes and copyrights this game. The game takes place on a 4x4 grid,[2][3] where 16 unique pieces are available to players. Each piece has distinct characteristics: tall or short, red or blue (or other color combinations), square or circular, hollow-top or solid-top.[4] Players alternate turns selecting a piece for their opponent to place on the board. The winner is the player who places four matching pieces in a row either horizontally, vertically, or diagonally, all sharing one attribute. A variant rule found in many editions provides an alternative way to win by arranging four matching pieces into a 2x2 square pattern.[5] Quarto stands out as an impartial game due to its single set of common pieces used by both players.
