Quadcopter - 'Predator'
cults3d
EDIT 04/01/2014: Please check out my new quadcopter - Fearless (thing:218726) This is a quadcopter which I have designed from scratch for general hobby flying or FPV. Modularity was foremost in my mind while designing it and therefore everything connects together with 3mm or 5mm bolts & nuts or cable ties in the case of the battery and ESCs on the arms. PLEASE DECIDE WHETHER YOU WILL NEED 3mm HOLES OR 5mm HOLES FOR FIXING THE QUAD TOGETHER. The asymmetric front/back design means you can easily determine the orientation of the quad while flying, and the spread front arms mean that the props are less likely to be in shot of the camera. (The front is the end with the wider arms) As before, I have tried to keep it as modular as possible; it should work with arms with a 25mm square arrangement of 3mm/5mm mounting holes such as those from the 'Crossfire' quadcopter by MikeyB (thing:32281) however I have designed some of my own. The included arms should weigh about 31g per arm with 3 shells and 25% infill as opposed to those from the 'Crossfire' which should weigh about 42g on the same settings, although I cannot comment on the relative strengths. The top plate is designed for use with a KK2.0/2.1 flight controller board (orthogonally orientated 45mm square of 4x3mm holes) and I have put 3 strong uprights around it to prevent it from hitting the ground first in the event of a 'faceplant' - for want of a better word. Furthermore, I have put it on standoffs should you need to solder anything onto the bottom of the board. The seemingly odd placement of the board is roughly the centre of rotation, so I figured that the KK2.0 would have an easier time here. You can use either nylon or metal screws, washers and nuts however I would recommend that you use metal for the arms. Finally, I have dimensioned all the parts to fit in the quite small build volume of the rep2x as this is what I have, and I would recommend printing in ABS so the parts are less brittle than PLA. Thanks for reading and please don't hesitate informing me of any improvements or modifications you feel would be good! - If you do print it please upload a pic and tell me how it went / what to change. The 'standard gopro mount' part will need to be printed WITH SUPPORTS.
