Quadcopter Flexbot V2.0
cults3d
This is a new iteration of Flexbot. We've revamped and refined the design based on past versions. For instance, the battery holder was redesigned to be more secure: it wouldn't fall out easily when the copter landed hard on the ground. However, if we made it too tight, it would cause trouble for the user. One day, while listening to music with my Beats headphones, they suddenly ran out of power. I noticed a clever design feature on its battery compartment as I was replacing the batteries - the cap could be secured by rotating it. This idea inspired the 3D-printed battery holder I designed for Flexbot. The battery part is crucial because it serves as the landing gear of the copter, so I made sure it wouldn't fall out easily. The frame's design hinges on two key factors: weight and strength. Weight... strength... strength... weight... then... crash! That was my initial goal. Unfortunately, it took longer than expected to perfect the design. We went through numerous versions that didn't work - Flexbot either flew erratically or crashed to the ground. But we persisted, even conducting a finite element analysis in a simulation environment to test and refine our designs. The final version required significant effort, but it's now strong, neat, and visually appealing. The new frame also incorporates other improvements, such as wider motor seats on top, making it easier for users to insert the motors. I find 3D printing incredibly convenient - whenever we need to make changes to Flexbot, I simply sketch out the design on my computer and print it. Just imagine how much trouble it would be if we had to use traditional molding methods! That's why we love digital fabrication so much - it's fun, creative, and limitless, making it perfect for both products and prototypes. We're still hard at work improving the structure and developing new relevant products. If you have any feedback or ideas about Flexbot, please don't hesitate to reach out. We'd be grateful for anything - seriously! You can find us on Twitter, Facebook, or Pinterest.
