This compact, ultra-lightweight quadcopter frame is specifically designed for pilots who want to push the limits or are learning to fly. This sturdy, durable design measures 50 cm in diameter and utilizes affordable, high-strength aluminum window screen extrusions widely available (North America). The lightweight frame consists of a central hub sandwiched between two plates with push-fit arms that can be easily replaced by loosening bolts. A motor mount also provides easy access to motors and allows for secure clamping using the 8mm round shaft housing. To extend flight time, every gram counts - this design aims to minimize weight while maintaining stability. To assemble this quadcopter frame, follow these simple steps: 1) Select a set of aluminum window screen extrusions from your local hardware store (New York Wire manufacturer Product # 71468). Cut them to the optimal length of 23 cm for maximum stability. 2) Choose the right bolts and nuts: - For arms: use 6mm long 3mm socket cap bolts. For the top hub, insert eight 12mm long bolts with regular (2mm thick) 3mm nuts and two more nuts embedded in each of the hub plates. To mount the control boards or distribution board, select 15 mm long bolts with a minimum length for secure mounting. - Use hex nylon standoffs for your flight control deck: choose one that's at least 6mm in length. - Two Velcro Lipo battery straps can be attached to your battery. If using a Hextronik motor, insert the provided 3mm socket cap bolt (15 mm long) with a lock nut. The design of this lightweight quadcopter frame uses universal mounts for motors which makes assembly straightforward and convenient. Once the central hub is attached to the top hub, push-fit the landing arms into the bottom hub to complete the frame. **Using This Quadcopter** * Motors: Four Hextronik 1300 KV brushless outrunners provide an impressive 400 grams thrust each, generating a combined 1.6 kg of thrust when fitted with 9x5 propellers. * Power distribution board for easy and reduced wiring: choose 12A Hobbyking Blue Edition ESCs that weigh only 10 grams each and can withstand significant loads. * A lightweight Quadcopter Frame: This model was built to keep weight low while maintaining stability by selecting lightweight yet efficient components and optimizing assembly. With an emphasis on making the design accessible for those looking to build their first Quadcopter, this build utilizes parts from common manufacturers. Please be aware that there may be a need for customization based on motor types used or your flight requirements.
