QU-BD OneUp/TwoUp - Extruder and X-Axis Redesign
thingiverse
Replace the X-Axis Belt driven system with a Lead Screw Driven System. All parts are currently untested. Note that a Hole for the M4x20mm screw will need to be drilled in the Gantry. I'll provide detailed instructions when I confirm the design works. Extra parts needed: (4) M3 x 8mm screws, (2) M3 x 12mm Screws, (2) M3 x 35mm Socket Head Screws (for Single Body Extruder), (8) M3 Hex Nuts, (1) M4 x 20mm Screw, (1) M4 Hex Nut, (1) 5/16-18 x 1" Button Head Screw, (1) 5/16-18 Lock Nut, (1) 7/8" Internal Retaining Clip (OD .943, THK 0.046), (1) 3/8-12 ACME Lead Screw Nut, (1) 3/8-12 ACME Lead Screw (OneUp = order a second from QU-BD Store; TwoUp = requires an 10 1/2" long cut), (1) 3/8-16 Hex Jam Nut (McMaster P/N: 96557A114) for Tensioner. Ensure the X-Axis Stepper Motor shaft is not bent; swap with Y-Axis motor if bent. Assemble the parts as follows: 1. Remove Belt, Stepper Motor, Bearing from X-Axis. 2. Remove Bracket from X-Gantry and left curved support. 3. Install XZSIDEBRACE_-_REPLACEMENT piece. 4. Remove Stepper Motor Pulley; attach motor to X-Axis Motor Relocation Bracket with 4 M3x8 screws. 5. Secure the bracket and motor on Z-Axis side with original Stepper Motor Screws and hex nuts. 6. Place Bearing in RH_SIDEBRACE, secure with 7/8" retaining clip. 7. Mount RH_SIDEBRACE to X-Gantry; temporarily secure with 5/16-18 button head and lock nut. 8. Assemble extruder and tensioner using original hardware and M3 bolt (head towards bracket, printed washer, bearing, tensioner, hex jam nut). 9. Attach linear bearings from old extruder to new one; slide onto X-Gantry rods, securing bracket first. 10. Thread Lead Screw through RH Bracket and Extruder Bracket with 2 M3x12 screws and hex nuts. 11. Install Flexible Coupler on Stepper Motor, thread Lead Screw into coupler and tighten. 12. Verify lead screw spins freely in RH Bracket; drill M4 hole if so. 13. If necessary, cut Lead Screw to appropriate length, deburr, and reassemble. 14. Adjust EEPROM settings: match Stepper/mm with Z-Axis rod, adjust Acceleration and Feed if required. 15. Any wobble may indicate a bent Stepper Motor shaft; check coupler security and EEPROM settings before considering a larger Nema 17 motor.
