My friend and I built a quadcopter from scratch, including its electronics. Despite numerous attempts, our homemade electronics haven't enabled flight yet due to sensor data reading issues affecting PID loop functionality. Our QR1 quadcopter project details are available online. We subsequently purchased the Hobbyking control board for quadcopters and installed it on the QR1 frame; it performed well. For a quadcopter exclusively meant for flying, we believe the Hobbyking control board combined with KK microcopter firmware would suffice. To make our quadcopter compact, we designed a mini version using common parts like 18-11 2000kv Micro Brushless Outrunner motors (10g), H-KING 10A Fixed Wing Brushless Speed Controllers, 5x3 Propellers (Standard and Counter Rotating) (6pc), Prop adapter with Alu Cone M5x2mm shaft (Grub Screw Type), Turnigy nano-tech 850mah 2S 25~40C Lipo Pack, and HobbyKing Quadcopter Control Board V2.1 (Atmega168PA) control board, all costing approximately €110. We prototyped the mini quadcopter design using 1.5mm aluminum, with plans to create the final version in carbon fiber. The QRM measures 176x176mm and will weigh about 325 grams during flight.
