The Qilin is a legendary creature that fuses deer, dragon, and lion characteristics, originating from ancient China during the Han dynasty. Its primary purpose was to safeguard tombs by repelling malevolent spirits and anyone attempting to plunder valuable treasures within. High-resolution 3D modeling was achieved through photogrammetry utilizing collections at the Johnson Museum of Cornell University. To amplify its protective properties, a small opening has been strategically placed near the shoulders, allowing for a string or chain to be threaded through, effectively turning the Qilin into a potent amulet that repels evil entities.
