Qidi X-Smart Carriage and Lid Replacement
thingiverse
I recently purchased a Qidi X-Smart on Amazon, but was frustrated with the print speeds due to default carriage fans blowing hot air directly onto the filament from far above the extruder. To address this issue, I redesigned the carriage to blow cooling air closer to the extruder and even added an extra fan for increased airflow. With these modifications, I've achieved impressive print speeds of up to 125mm/s on outer walls with no curling or warping, as well as 200mm/s infill. Furthermore, I integrated a slot for a PINDA probe into the design since the X-Smart comes equipped with an auto-leveling spot on the board. I will update this post when I successfully get the software compatible with it. Additionally, I included a version of the lid for the carriage for those who want to match their assembly. This design primarily utilizes stock Qidi screws, except for the fan ducts which are held in place by #8-32 screws and nuts obtained from Home Depot. The second fan is secured using an extra screw and nut provided with the printer kit. To utilize the second fan, you will also need to print Switch Hitter.stl, a clip that attaches to the Y-axis to adjust the limit switch position 5mm less due to the fan's extended length of about 4mm. Otherwise, you can use Carriage, Belt Lock, Lid, and Duct 1. Attaching the second fan involves soldering (or using electrical tape and twisting if preferred) a second 50mm fan on the same circuit as the first. While this design works with PLA, I recommend using ABS/PETG for optimal results since I've successfully tested numerous prints with PLA but highly prefer ABS/PETG. The carriage is compatible with the stock Qidi lid, and the lid can be used with the stock Qidi carriage if needed. If you encounter difficulty installing nuts into their holes, try screwing the nut onto the bolt first before tightening it in place. The fit is intended to be semi-permanent, so I have no plans to increase its size.
