Qidi X-Plus Spool Roller Fence
thingiverse
This is an upgraded version of the Qidi 3D X-Plus Spool Roller, crafted by mistertech, where two critical parts are replaced with a more substantial structure. The original files, Spool_Roller_lock_170mm.stl, which held the assembly together, have been swapped out for a solid bridge and four sturdy vertical pillars. This revised design is specifically tailored to work seamlessly with the original Qidi X-Plus roller, ensuring it stays securely in place. Initially, I had used mistertech's spool weight, but it often failed to provide sufficient grip on the rollers, causing the spool to either get stuck inside my printer or end up on the floor. This redesign adds a protective fence around the original spool rod without significantly increasing resistance during printing. The Qidi spool bar glides smoothly past the vertical fences even when rotating. Note that printing this model requires supports unless you're comfortable slicing it into smaller pieces and assembling them manually. I've included an image showing how I successfully printed it with Simplify3D's default support settings enabled. Be cautious when removing these supports to avoid breaking off the tabs on the bottom.
